Mission Statement
Our mission at PATA is to reach as many families in the foreign regions and initiate programs to facilitate the quality of life in a Christian atmosphere. To address health issues and restore the dignity of true Christian living.
Mortimer Mills, a retired chemist, worked abroad frequently for his company. Mr Mills frequent South Africa and many other countries abroad as a troubleshooter for the companies overseas plant. In the early 1990's, a co-worker from South Africa came to train at the chemistry company Mr Mills was employed with, prior to his retirement. Mort bonded with the trainee from overseas, Mr. Charles Johnson, almost immediately. When Mort was called to Port Elizabeth, South Africa on business, he was invited by Charles and his wife Hermia to worship at their church on Sunday. The services were not held at a church, as Mort had expected, instead they were directed to a school classroom.
Charles and Hermia explained to Mr. Mills, that during the apartheid years the Dutch Reformed Church became "Whites Only", and the races became more alienated. Although, alienated, the financial support for the "Black" church, came mainly from "Whites". The constant relocation of Blacks due to the "Groups Area's Act" forged a breakdown in financial support for the Black churches.
As world sanctions against the South African Government grew and large corporations pulled out of the country, it devasted the Black middle class.
The residents of Booyston Park and other surrounding Townships are attempting to rebuild everything-most importantly the church. Mr. Johnson and his wife expressed they would like to have a "real church". A "light bulb" went off in Mort's head. When Mort, returned to the states he discussed the possibility of a way to raise money for the community of Booyston Park , with his wife Omita and a colleague Robert Oliva. Thus the creation of a not-for-profit company called PATA(pronounced- paa-ta) was founded. The company was formed to assist in raising money for their brothers and sisters in Christ . The mission is to build church homes for communities devastated by many of life's calamities.
Hopefully, this project and many more to come will help the citizens of Booyston Park and, other communities around the world to regain a piece of their soul.
